Coby Boom-Box Recalled for Fire Hazard

Comments Off

Coby Electronics is recalling 13,800 USB/MP3/CD boom-boxes due to a potential fire hazard. When left plugged into an electrical outlet, if the switch is not firmly “off” the unit can overheat, creating a fire hazard.

To date, Coby Electronics has been notified of 18 instances of the boom-boxes overheating – three of them resulting in minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled unit is a portable CD/MP3 player with an AM/FM radio. The USB allows it to connect to a computer. The model number, “MP-CD475″ is written on the top.

The recalled units have serial numbers, located on the rear of the unit beneath the AC power cord plug-in outlet, in the following range limits:

• 0736000001 through 0736005000

• 0816000001 through 0816005300

• 0826000001 through 0826003500

Consumers should unplug the unit immediately and contact Coby Electronics for more information regarding the recall or a replacement.
